Deportation Often Means Losing Custody of US-Born Children

Deportation Often Means Losing Custody of US-Born Children

North Carolina officials are seeking the termination of a deported Mexican man's parental rights, arguing that his U.S.-born children are better off in this country than in Mexico.

I'm amazed at how often this happens. How can they possibly be unaware of the risks of their children being virtually orphaned? They enter the country illegally, live their lives like wanted criminals, forever hiding from authorities, knowing that they could be apprehended at any moment and sent back to their native country in handcuffs. To have children, knowing you could be hauled away at any moment is truly irresponsible. Despite all of that, my opinion is that the children should be sent to live with their father... they shouldn't be punished for their father's mistakes.
