NGOs take to streets against child abuse at orphanages

Several non-governmental organisations and staffers of orphanages in Delhi on Monday held a protest march at Jantar Mantar against recent cases of child abuse. The protest was led by HAQ: Centre for Child Rights against Arya Orphanage and many other institutions. The protesters raised a demand for adequate protocol and standard operating procedures to respond to cases of child abuse. After the recent case of child abuse reported from Arya Orphanage, the fact that there is a lack of a mechanism to protect children in such institutions has been highlighted once again. Ex-members of the Child Welfare Committee also participated in the protest demanding a CBI inquiry in the Arya Orphanage case.
